Paper Quilling Flowers

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

Read on to see how we made these beauties.

Paper quilling, also known as paper filigree, is a beautiful craft technique that involves rolling, bending, and shaping narrow strips of paper to create decorative designs. One of the most popular and timeless designs created with quilling is the flower. Quilled flowers are delicate, intricate, and can be used to decorate cards, frames, ornaments and even home decor. In this blog post, we will take a look at some of the most beautiful and creative quilled flower designs and provide you with the tips and techniques you need to create your own.

The most basic quilled flower design is the tight coil flower. To create this design, you will need a slotted quilling tool, quilling paper, and glue. Start by rolling a strip of paper tightly around the quilling tool, creating a tight coil. Once you have reached the end of the strip, apply a small amount of glue to the end and press it against the coil to secure it. Next, take a second strip of paper and create another tight coil. Place this second coil on top of the first one, slightly offsetting it. Repeat this process until you have created the desired number of coils for your flower. Once you have finished creating the coils, you can use a small amount of glue to attach a stem to the bottom of the flower.

Another popular quilled flower design is the teardrop flower. To create this design, you will need a slotted quilling tool, quilling paper, and glue. Start by rolling a strip of paper around the quilling tool, creating a tight coil. Once you have reached the end of the strip, apply a small amount of glue to the end and press it against the coil to secure it. Next, take a second strip of paper and create another tight coil. Place this second coil on top of the first one, slightly offsetting it. Then, using your fingers, pinch one end of the coil to create a teardrop shape. Repeat this process until you have created the desired number of teardrops for your flower. Once you have finished creating the teardrops, you can use a small amount of glue to attach a stem to the bottom of the flower.

One more beautiful quilled flower design is the fringed flower. To create this design, you will need a slotted quilling tool, quilling paper, and glue. Start by rolling a strip of paper around the quilling tool, creating a tight coil. Once you have reached the end of the strip, apply a small amount of glue to the end and press it against the coil to secure it. Next, using scissors, cut the edge of the coil into fringes. Repeat this process until you have created the desired number of fringed coils for your flower. Once you have finished creating the fringed coils, you can use a small amount of glue to attach a stem.

Hello Kathleen,

Trust the glue :)

Pour little glue on a flat surface or scrap paper and thin it out. Using tweezers, pick your coil or leaf and dip into the glue, ensuring everything is evenly covered. Now place where you need and gently hold it down with a finger for a few seconds. You're done!

Hope this helps!

I am a beginner, and I have not found out what the process is to secure the coils, leaves and stems securely to the card stock. Can anyone give me a tip on how this is done? thank you
